Resort Municipality Water Systems Run with the Power of QCAi
– Case Description | Company Challenge
Resort Water Municipality
The resort is a four-season destination and water supply is key to ensure the Tourism Industry works. Water infrastructure reporting and alerts were not adequate to ensure the water flowed 100% of the time.
Key Results
Improved data quality resulted in employees trusting reports and and alerts
Response times improved as alerts are reacted to more quickly
Architecture choices hardened security and secures data

QCAi Work
Get the Data Right and the Reports Work
QCAi worked with operations and management to define and refine functional requirements and KPIs to be measured. This team then worked collaboratively to better document and understand their RTUs (Remote Terminal Units).
As background, RTUs monitor pumps, motors and valves across the water pipeline. These RTUs produces timeseries data which is then sent via a cellular network to a secure data centre. In their network there are hundreds of pumps and valves to monitor.
The architecture delivered meets security requirements and is consistent with industry standards for municipality water departments.
The new dashboard shows a high-level map of all RTUs and their current status. Each valve, motor and pump are assessed for performance metrics including pressure, and reservoir levels. Most importantly to those that drink the water, the quality of water is also monitored with metrics such as turbidity, chlorinity, ultraviolet levels, and colour.
Benefits
Better visualization and an understanding of real time system operations and deficiencies.
Motor, valve, and pump failures can be quickly identified which improves availability.
The dashboard makes visible production details of the past and present allowing for analysis of root causes of outages.
Web-based reporting allows for end users to more easily access insights.
